BOSTON (WHDH) – The City of Boston is hosting its second COVID-19 vaccination campaign with a $75 gift card. The first event of its kind drew huge crowds – long queues.
The second event is Saturday, October. 1 Held at White Stadium in Franklin Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., gift cards are valid only for those 18 and younger who are vaccinated or boosted and caregivers who are vaccinated or boosted at the event, while stocks last.
People 6 months and older will receive the first and second doses of the COVID-19 primary vaccination series, as well as booster doses, including the new Omicron-specific formulation. The new booster is only available for those 12 and older.
The group said the event is part of the Boston Public Health Commission’s efforts to increase and boost vaccination rates in the city, especially among younger residents. The vaccination rate was 11% for children aged 6 months to 4 years and 46.6% for children aged 5 to 11 years. BPHC added that Boston has seen an increase in COVID-19 metrics, including wastewater, daily cases and hospitalizations, since the start of the school year.
“There is an urgent need to increase vaccination rates among school-aged Boston children, and all who qualify must have access to the new bivalent omicron-specific booster. This event is our opportunity to break down barriers to care and bring COVID vaccines and boosters directly to our communities another opportunity,” said Dr. Bisora Ojikutu. “I encourage everyone to protect themselves, their families and those closest to them by getting vaccinated or boosted.”
