A new video released at the request of 5 Investigators shows what happens when overhead power lines fall on the Green Line track on Park Street. The initial spark sent people off the platform and the second spark on the platform sent them rushing to the gate. Smoke can be seen lingering in the air as people begin to filter the Green Line train that has just pulled into Park Street. They quickened their pace away from the station as more sparks filled the air. “The crowd in the subway car at first, they seemed to be panicking and running very fast,” Emerson College freshman Arthur Mansavage said Sept. 9. 11. “There was a lot of shaking. It sounded like It was like gunshots, it was scary,” a witness said. “There were also at least 20 to 30 firefighters there, so it was crowded,” rider Joey Newman said Sept. 11. “They were just telling us to get out of there.” There were no reports of casualties related to the incident, but part of the Green Line was shut down for hours after the overhead line was carrying 600 volts at Park Street Station, an MBTA spokesman said. Fire and no evacuation. Red Line riders can still get service at Park Street Station, but Green Line riders must get shuttle service between Kenmore and the Government Center, while MBTA Power has made repairs. The MBTA has not said what caused the overhead wires to fall onto the Green Line track.

Arthur Mansavage, a freshman at Emerson College, said on Sept. 9: “The initial crowd in the subway car, they seemed to be panicking and running very fast.” 11. “There was a lot of shaking. .It sounded like gunshots, very scary,” a witness said.
“There were at least 20 to 30 firefighters in there, so it was packed,” rider Joey Newman said Sept. 9. 11. “They just told us to get out of there.”
No casualties were reported in connection with the incident, but a section of the Green Line was shut down for hours after overhead power lines carrying 600 volts of electricity fell onto the tracks.
A spokesman for the MBTA said there was no fire at Park Street Station and no evacuations were made.
Red Line riders will still be able to get service at Park Street Station, but Green Line riders must get shuttle service between Kenmore and the Government Center while the MBTA Power Department performs repairs.
The MBTA has not said what caused the overhead wires to fall onto the Green Line track.
