There are many Chase credit cards with Chase Ultimate Rewards points, and while these points are usually best used for travel opportunities, you can also redeem them at Amazon. While we generally recommend saving them for travel, Amazon is currently offering deals that not only use your Chase points, but also save on your next Amazon purchase during the Amazon Prime Early Access Sale on October 10. 11 and 12.
Chase credit card holders participating in this promotion can save 40% off Amazon purchases when using Chase Ultimate Rewards points at Amazon, up to $20 off. Other Chase cardholders are aiming for a 30% discount, up to a maximum of $10.
This promotion is currently scheduled to end in October. The 10th is the day before Amazon’s Prime Early Access sale, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it expand to cover the sale itself or similar offers that replace it. Either way, you’ll want to make sure to take advantage of it and save some money on your next Amazon purchase.
If you’re the target of one of the offers, you’re in luck, but not all Chase cards are. So we’ve broken it down step by step to see if you qualify for the discount, and if so, show you how to apply it to your Amazon orders.
First, you must have a Chase credit card that earns Ultimate Rewards points. This includes popular credit cards such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Chase Freedom Flex℠. Unfortunately, other Chase credit cards that earn points and miles associated with specific airlines or hotels are not eligible for this offer.
If you have a card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you’ll need to link it to your Amazon account and sign up for the “Shop with Points” payment option. You can click this link to add your card to Shopping with Points, or find it under the Your Account tab on Amazon.com.
After linking your Chase card, click here to activate 30% off or 40% off. But keep in mind that this is a targeted promotion, so you may see a different offer or a message saying you’re not eligible. If it’s the latter, you might want to check often, as sometimes Amazon targets users later. Also, if you just signed up to Shop with Points, you may have to wait 24 hours for the offer to activate.
However, if you see the offer, you can sign up by clicking the “Activate Now” button, and once you sign up, you can buy any Amazon-sold and shipped products on Amazon. Regardless of which offer you use, you’ll get discounts on all purchases until you reach your maximum savings of $10 or $20, depending on your offer.
Unfortunately, items sold by third-party merchants are not eligible for this discount, but while Amazon gift cards are also excluded, you can purchase gift cards from many other retailers (such as Best Buy and Whole Foods) and get the discount.
Once your purchase is in your Amazon cart, there is one more step to get discounts that apply to your order. During the checkout process, you will need to select your linked Chase card as your payment method and use at least 1 point to pay for your purchase. Once done, you’ll see the discount on the checkout total on the right side of the screen.
When Amazon pays with Ultimate Rewards points, 1 point equals 0.8 cents, which isn’t a great value. In fact, frequent flyer site The Points Guy puts Ultimate Rewards points worth 2 cents each when they travel. But you only need to use 1 point at Amazon to get this discount, and then you can use your Chase credit card to pay the remaining total amount.
Be careful though, as many times Amazon will automatically apply the full point to your order, so you’ll need to manually change it to just 1 point. To do so, enter $0.01 in the Points section, which will only apply 1 point to your payment. Of course, you can claim as many points as you want, but you’ll get more value by spending them on downline travel.
Even if you don’t have a Chase credit card — or if you’re not the target of this particular promotion — Amazon often offers similar deals for those with a Discover or American Express card. That means you have a chance to still save some money on your next Amazon purchase.
Also, other discounts using your credit card points often appear on Amazon from time to time, so even if you’re not currently the target of these offers, get your credit card to join Amazon’s “Shop with Points” program, just in case you have Qualify for another offer at a later date.
Keep in mind that Amazon’s Chase deal is currently only valid until October. October 10, 2022, so if you’re its target, make sure to take advantage of it before it’s gone.
