Washington DC – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced today that Tomoko Hosaka Mullaney has been named Executive Director of the U.S.-Japan Business Council (USJBC).
Mullaney most recently served as Group Vice President of Asia, providing strategic guidance and analysis of Japan’s economic, geopolitical and market landscape to business leaders. Before joining the Asia Group, she was a veteran business journalist and media leader with ten years of experience in Japan.
“We are delighted to have Tomoko as the next executive director of the USJBC,” said Charles Freeman, senior vice president for Asia at the American Chamber of Commerce. “She brings a wealth of experience and deep expertise to Japan and will strengthen the organization And a global network of good services for our members. ”

Tomoko has served as Group Vice President for Asia, Associate Economics Editor for The Associated Press in Washington, D.C., Chief Operating Officer for Plympton Inc. and Head of News and Political at Ustream.
In Tokyo, she was a business and technology reporter for The Associated Press for 4 years and Japan News Editor for Dow Jones Newswires for 3 years. She holds an MA in International Relations from Waseda University in Tokyo and a BA in Journalism from Northwestern University.
