After more than a year of stalled investigations, law enforcement last week resumed the Seekonk murder of 66-year-old Joseph Housley – charging the victim’s son and his friends.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said in a statement that two 21-year-old Rehoboth men, Christopher Herron and Joseph “JD” Hausley II, were arrested Thursday for their previous arrests. Solved 2021 homicides charged with murder and firearms.
The elder Housely was found bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound at his apartment in the 101 Forsyth Circle area on July 6, 2021, at about 10pm. Police were called to reports of a shooting in the area, and the man died at the scene.
The two suspects have been in custody since last fall on multiple gun and drug-smuggling charges starting in 2021, with a pretrial hearing scheduled for Oct. 18 in Fall River Superior Court. 18.
“I would like to commend the investigators in my office, the Seekonk Police Department, the Rehoboth Police Department and the State Police Department for their combined efforts in investigating this complex case,” Quinn said. “They have worked tirelessly over the past 15 months. That led to this prosecution. We now look forward to prosecuting this case in court.”
According to the DA’s statement, it is “likely” that the defendants will also have new indictments on that date.
The prosecutor’s office said they would not release any further information about the case until the defendants were arraigned.
The Marathon investigation was coordinated by Assistant District Attorney Sean Gilderson in partnership with Massachusetts State Police detectives.
Seekonk Police Chief Dean Isabella thanked all parties for “the tireless pursuit of justice for the victims of this heinous crime and their families.”
“(The investigators’) tireless efforts over the past 15 months have led to this indictment,” Quinn said. “We now look forward to prosecuting the case in court.”
